Abstract:
Owing to increasing concerns on energy utilization and environmental protection, more attentions have been placed on electric vehicles recently. As a soul of an electric vehicle system,the development of electric machines has become a hot research topic. The electric machines can be generally categorized as two major groups, namely the brushed machines, and the brushless machines. As compared with the brushed ones, the brushless machines can enjoy the absolute advantage of maintenancefree operation, so that these type of machines have become the major trend since the last few decades. Some conventional brushless machine types, such as induction machine or permanent-magnet synchronous machine, are highly technological mature for industrial applications while some advancing machine types, such as doubly-salient machine and flux-switching machine, are also very promising. It is worthwhile placing some attentions on these newcomers. This program focuses on
learning latest technologies of electric vehicles, studying traditional and modern electric machines and developing analytical model for electric machines. Throughout the program, students are expected to learn fundamental knowledge of electric machines and electric vehicles, to study and analysis of new machine types, including doubly-salient machine and flux-switching machine and to develop analytical models with Matlab.
